Shanghai Stationary 'Feathers of Fei Cui' (green shimmering)

The Kingfisher is a bird which lives in Europe as well as in Asia. The beloved and treasured bird symbolises beauty and married loved, probably beause they are often found in pairs.

Maybe that is why hair decoration pieces for brides were made from the kingfisher feather work. The feathers were cut into small sections of the required shape and size and these were glued onto a metal ground. A wide variety of shapes, both abstract and natural, were created using this technique.

Some varieties have more greenish bright feathers on their wings, which resembles the Fei Cui, which is the Chinese trade term for high-quality green jadeite jade, often called 'Kingfisher jade' for its vibrant, emerald green, and often translucent, watery appearance.
